Red Farm Goldcliff

Main Sighting: Ruff
Note: ruff also at Goldcliff. Roadside viewing across the water at Red Farm saw 1 ruff there also, 240 wigeon, 3 greylag geese, 43 shoveler, water rail calling, 78 teal, 1 cettis calling, 10 lapwing and 6 snipe.

Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Turnstone
Plenty of fieldfares and redwings today, 436 lapwing, 30 curlew (one colour ringed), 12 shelduck, 59 teal, 2 herons, 2 lt egrets, pair of kestrel hunting, female peregrine on sea wall, 45 dunlin, pair of stonechats with seperate male also seen, male marsh harrier hunting again, 310 wigeon, 5 black tailed godwits, 1 greenshank, 1 spotted redshank, 20 snipe, male sparrowhawk, 1 goldcrest, 48 common redshanks, 1 water rail (2nd heard calling), crow carrying a sweetcorn cob, merlin flying through was possibly a female? From the sea wall we had an excellent count of 45 turnstone.

Three Brambling in the garden today, m and 2f. Also Marsh tit, Redwing 5, Goldcrest and Treecreeper. Also Red Admiral when temp registered a mere 5C!

Parc Coetir Bargod

Main Sighting: Goosanders
2 redheaded Goosander this AM on river Rhymney along with 6 Dipper, a pair of Mallard, Moorhen and Grey Wagtail. A Sparrowhawk chased a Green woodpecker and scared off 2 Wood pigeon. Buzzard circling once it warmed up. No Kingfisher this AM but they have been present throughout the year.

Red Farm Hide Goldcliff

Scanning from the roadside across the water saw 1 ruff, 1 common redshank, 1 little egret, 65 lapwing, 445 wigeon, 51 shoveler, 10 teal and a goldcrest in the bushes.

Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Merlin
Good numbers of fieldfares, less redwings, party of 28 long tailed tits by the little bridge, 1 goldcrest, fem kestrel, 330 wigeon (one ringed bird), 508 lapwing, 1 ruff, 15 dunlin, 10 shelduck, 4 little egrets, 1 heron, 8 curlew, male and peregrine peregrines, pair of stonechats with a pair of wrens in the same blackthorn bush that protrudes from the reeds, only 15 snipe, 1 little stint showing well from hide 1, 31 shoveler, 104 teal, kingfisher, 51 common redshanks (no greenshank or spotted redshanks today), 1 water rail possibly 2 calling, 8 oystercatchers, 1 gt b b gull and a male merlin from 3rd hide. Cracking adult male marsh harrier along the sea wall, really smart adult.
