Dingestow Court

Main Sighting: Hawfinches
I'm guessing that Gavin's sighting from "a private estate" on 10/1 was from Dingestow Court. I posted occasional counts from here in the early part of the winter, but numbers have increased dramatically over the last 2 weeks and Hawfinches are now constantly audible. I think 60+ may be an overestimate - 30-40 would fit what I'm seeing each day. Although the garden itself is private, the Hawfinches are audible/visible from the Gwent Wildlife Trust office area or from where the public footpath crosses the east drive (SO45150983). To be honest, if a few birders want to enjoy the Hawfinches here then you're very welcome (it's my garden and I'm a long-term Gwent birder), but please park in the 'Visitor's Carpark' (SO44990961). There are usually 2 or 3 Mandarins on the lake at the moment too.
