Beufort

Main Sighting: Wheatear
2 male wheatears seen along the mountain stretch. Also watched back at Mynydd islwyn, a female sparrowhawk flying about 2 ft above the country lane in front of our car for about 100 yards. This is a growing practice whereby they rely on the engine noise to scare out birds from the hedgerows to make easy pickings for them. Have seen this on a number of occasions now in various areas.

I watched it fly in at 1845 to the north end of the reservoir. it looks to have a blue ring on left leg, plus a split in the tail, and a notch in the left wing. Beautiful bird, fantastic watching it work hard at catching and landing its dinner, a whopping blue trout (Id by Owain) in strong winds.
