Main Sighting:
Goldcliff Lagoons.14th Aug.Morning.Excellent views of juv MARSH HARRIER hunting low over the Lagoons, on & off between 0930-1100hrs when it flew high South over the Severn. Also of interest;3 RUFF,3 KNOT,6 GREENSHANK,42 BLACK-WITS,100+DUNLIN,3 SNIPE,2 COMMON SAND,3 WIGEON,40 TEAL,7 SHOVELER,9 GADWALL and 1 YELLOW WAG.Good no.s of SILVER Y Moths feeding on Thistles together with quite a few PAINTED LADY Butterflies.

Collister Pill. Sat 16/8/03. Hour before morning high tide. 6 Wheater, 1 Whinchat, 1 yellow wagtail, 376 Curlew, 2 Common Sandpiper, Peregrine & Sparrowhawk. Also close view of weasel carrying young rabbit down track.

Among the birds along a mile of the River Usk at Caerleon on 17.8.03 1 Cormorant, 1 Grey Heron, 3 Mute Swan, 6 Mallard, 5 Teal, 1 Sparrow Hawk, 23 Lapwing, 64 Common Redshanks, 4 Greenshanks, 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Common Sandpipers, 1 Great Black Backed Gull, 33 Lesser Black Backed Gull, 15 Herring Gull, 1 Common Gull, 100 Black Headed Gull, 2 Stock Dove, 2 Blackcap, 1 singing Reed Warbler, and 1 male Bullfinch.

Goldcliff Lagoons.19th Aug.Autumn passage well underway! Amongst the more usual were c80 TEAL,34 SHOVELER,1 juv & 1 ad HOBBY (latter chasing waders),51 RINGED PLOVER,1 juv LRP,300 DUNLIN,7+ GREENSHANK,1 GREEN & 1 COMMON SAND,3 SNIPE,84 BLACK-TAILED GODWITS(well down on the 180 seen on 17th,but tide not as high),7 KNOT,6 YELLOW WAGS & 1 WHEATEAR .
