GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Uskmouth 1/3/03 pm. Windy with very heavy rain at times. Birds seen include 20+ lapwings, 1 green sandpiper, 4 pochard, 20 teal, at least 3 but probably around 6 little egrets giving very good views, 2 reed buntings, 8 Canada geese. Shelduck, curlew, widgeon, teal, on the foreshore, but driving rain made looking seawards an impossibility. All birds were wisely moving up channel ahead of storm.

Peterstone

Main Sighting:
Visited Peterstone at high tide on 3.3.03, walked from the Gout, and the Pill to Peterstone Village. Fortunately the very thick mist lifted to give reasonably good visibility. In the Gout, 2 Mallard, 2 Teal, 2 Coot, 1 Mute Swan, and 103 Common Redshanks. Between the Gout and the village, 198 Shelduck, 282 Wigeon, 215 Teal, 127 Mallard, 11 Pintail, 1 Oystercatcher, 12 Curlew, and flying east 350 or so Dunlin.

Gwent

Main Sighting:
Unusual record of male Reed Bunting in my brothers urban garden in the middle of Abertilery yesterday just after the high winds had passed through. Got caught under a plastic sheet looking for food and had to be released; flew off but came back 20 mins later.

Main Sighting:
These are sightings at my own feeding station in Llanhilleth since Christmas:-7Greenfinches(males+Females),Male+Female Siskins,Dunnock,Goldcrest,Yellowhmmer,piedWagtail,Greywagtail,Great sppotted woodpecker,Mistlethrush,Jay,Bullfinch(male+Female),Chaffinches(males+Females)Crossbill This was an extremly rare sighting,bluetits(Males+Females)GreatTits(Males+Females),Longtailedtits,Coaltits,robins and a few more as well.I have about 9 feeders nuts,seed,fat+my own special mixes.I have my own photography hide as I am a keen bird photographer.If you would like to know more or would like to ask a few more questions E-mail me at:- rhyswebb@lycos.co.uk

GLWR Goldcliff

Main Sighting:
Visited Goldcliff Lagoons at low tide on 27.2.03 where I managed to dodge the showers. Birds seen include 1 Little Grebe, 1 Little Egret, 8 Mute Swan, 4 Shelduck, 163 Wigeon,62 Teal, 63 Mallard, 16 Gadwall, 5 Pintail, 5 Shoveler, 1 Buzzard, 1 Moorhen, 8 Coot, 4 Oystercatchers, 8 Lapwing, 4 Ringed Plover, 19 Curlew, 2 Common Redshanks, and 4 Raven.

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Visited Uskmouth to catch the high tide of 24.2.03, and then walked over the levels via the foot paths to the Farmers Arms, Goldcliff. Fortunately the mist lifted quickly giving good visibility, of just over 50 different species. At Uskmouth birds included 1 female Merlin, 63 Coot, 5 Water Rail, 46 Tufted Duck, 33 Meadow Pipit, 7 (Singing) Cetti'ss Warbler, 2 Stonechat, 14 Reed Bunting, and on the foreshore 78 Shelduck, 62 Mallard,21 Teal, 134 Wigeon, 19 Pintail, 20 Grey Plover, 4 Oystercatchers, 100 Knot, 68 Curlew, 2900 Dunlin, and good views of a single Ruff. On the Levels 1 Little Grebe, 6 Little Egret, 14 Mallard, 1 Teal, 2 Pintail, 3 Shoveler, 2 Tufted Duck, 1 Buzzard, 13 Coot, 23 Curlew, 2 (Singing) Cetti'ssWarbler, 2 Redwing, 2 Mistle Thrush, and 75 House Sparrows between the Levels, and farmers Arms.
