Newport Wetlands Goldcliff

Main Sighting: Red Kite
Red Kite 2 Sparrowhawk 1 Kestrel 1. Spotted Redshank 1 Redshank 111 Snipe 24 Turnstone 1 Black-tailed Godwit 5 were seen from the Marsh VP. Three Song Thrush were feeding on the farm mud heap and Stonechat 4 on brash near seawall.

Main Sighting: Dipper
1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Carrion Crow, 1 Coal Tit, 3 Blue Tit, 2 Nuthatch, 3 Wren, 2 Dipper (both rung: Bird 1 - red ring on left leg; white ring over red ring on right leg. Bird 2 - yellow ring on left leg; white ring over yellow ring on right leg.), 5 Robin, 6 Blackbird, 2 Song Thrush, 2 Mistle Thrush, 2 Dunnock, 1 Pied Wagtail, 2 Chaffinch.

Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Curlews
Morning session in the hides. Large numbers of Curlews(17) gathering together feeding. Large flock of Lapwings (40+), Dunlins (40+), Wigeon (100+), Redshank and Greenshank mix (10 +), Little Egret (1), Shellduck (20+), Shoveler (30 + ), Teal ( 5 +), Meadow Pippit (10+), Starling Flock (30+), Kestrel female (1), Buzzard ( 1), Ravens (2), Fieldfare and Redwings in the Hawthorns showing well, Greylag Goose(1), Mute Swan (1) and Stonechat (1).

Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Knot
Quiet morning although high tide and water levels up, but birds of note included fieldfares and redwings, 1st year male peregrine, 5 skylarks feeding together, 30 teal, 5 lt egrets, 1 black tailed godwit, 15 snipe, 1 water rail calling, cettis calling, 5 mute swans, 21 common redshanks, 1 spotted redshank, 3 greenshanks, siskins overhead, 240 lapwing, 2 buzzards, 81 dunlin (numbers still low), 10 shelduck, kestrel, 218 wigeon, 15 greylag geese, 21 shoveler, 45 curlew (on the grass to the left of hide 3), 2 herons, 2 knot, 17 grey plovers and a pair of pintail flying out at sea.

Scanning the lagoon from the road side saw 101 teal, 405 wigeon, 50 shoveler with 2 crossbills overhead.
