Boat Lane, Goldcliff.

Main Sighting: Whinchat
Further for Red Barn Farm Hide - 2 little owl pellets found at the hide. Species of note at Boat Lane included: 2 common buzzards, chiffchaff in song, goldcrest, 1 snipe, 3 skylark and a pair of stonechats. From the sea wall - whinchat on the sea wall, 48 lapwing, 3 ruff, 5 common redshanks, 3 egrets, 32 shoveler, another 47 wigeon, pair of kestrels, 17 curlew, juv peregrine arrived and landed on a tree stump, 1 cettis, 9 dunlin, 1 bar tailed godwit (possibly the one sighted by TC from Saltmarsh earlier in the week)?, pair of pintail, red admiral, 2 speckled woods, 1 migrant hawker and 1 young male fox posing for photos.

Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Grey Plover
Morning tide 15 grey plover, 1 knot, 3 ruff, 4 greenshank, 2 snipe, 30 dunlin, 26 ringed plover, 130 curlew180 shelduck, 110 teal, 50 shoveler, 5 wigeon, 5 swallows and 1 house Martin through, 30 plus meadow pipits, 5 pied wagtails, juv peregrine, 2 kestrels and 2 chiffchaffs

Beaufort Hill Ponds and Woodlands

Main Sighting: Kingfisher
Caught sight of a Kingfisher darting across the water of the top reservoir at Beaufort Hill Ponds and Woodlands at 11.30 am . Then alighted on a willow tree on the other side of the reservoir.

Newport Wetlands Goldcliff

Main Sighting: Goosander
Hide tide count today included: Golden Plover 5 Grey Plover 6 Knot 2 Ringed Plover 5 Dunlin 32 Curlew 107 at least four of the latter were colour ringed. Also; Teal 60 Shoveler 31 Peregrine female 1 Kestrel 2 Sparrowhawk 1 Swallow 20 . And finally just as we were about to leave three Goosander on Monk's Lagoon two females and a drake was a first for us here and Brian Thomas.

This afternoon adult winter plumage Mediterranean gull at sudbrook. At blackrock single spotted flycatcher, yellow wagtail and tree creeper and 7 swallows.

Mon Brecon canal (north of goytre wharf)

3 x red kites following a tractor making hay bails in one of the fields visable from bridge no77 (I think) also kingfisher and 20+ pied wagtails in the field and 15+ dunnock feeding...
