Goldcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Water Rail
14.00 - 15.30 - Lapwing [150+], Starling [100+], Redshank [50+], Snipe [60+], Mallard, Shelduck, Teal, Wigeon, Shoveler, Greenshank, Curlew [10], Grey Heron, Little Egret [2], Great Black Backed Gull, Black Headed Gull [2], Black Tailed Godwit [12], Fieldfare [10], Moorhen, Water Rail showing well in the area opposite the new platform, Kestrel [2], Peregrine [1]; had a go at a Curlew before heading out over mudflats, Raven [2], Jackdaw, Magpie, Woodpigeon, Stonechat, Canada Goose.

Main Sighting: Crossbill
10.30 - 12.30 - Good numbers of Coal Tit, Blue Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Great Tit and Robin. Song Thrush [1], several Blackbird, Wren [1], Goldcrest [6], Raven [1], Dunnock [3], pair of Bullfinch, Jay [1], Nuthatch [2], Crossbill [6] 3 [M] and 3 [F]; feeding high in the conifers.

Gwent Forestry

Main Sighting: Crossbills
Flock of Crossbills ( 15 to 20). Watched them feeding in tree tops in Gwent Forestry. 1 x Kestrel, 1 x Raven, flocks of up to 10 Long Tailed Tits.

Golfcliff Lagoons

Main Sighting: Common snipe
Good mix this morning with 57 species seen including 3 goldcrest by the bridge (1 more elsewhere) 4 lt egrets 3 herons 1 cettis calling 720 dunlin from hide 1 with a good count of 142 curlew and 85 black tailed godwits. 137 redshanks 4 greenshank 2 spotted redshanks 126 lapwing 30 wigeon (rest at Red Barn) 33 shoveler 11 ringed plovers 2 kestrel 3 cormorant 20 shelduck 115 teal 1 buzzard 10 grey plovers 1 Egyptian goose over 2 pairs stonechats small numbers redwing and fieldfares fem marsh harrier (0820) 3 gt b b gulls and 8 pintail from sea wall and male peregrine sat on rock on shingle from hide 3 (no sign of snow bunting). 2 water rails kept pushing the snipe from the edges of the reeds and 99 were counted with possibly more hidden?.

Waunavon Bog

Dusk visit: Red Grouse called; Snipe; pair Ravens in to roost in the lone tree. No owls.
