Llandogo

Main Sighting:
16:10 Female brambling on garden bird feeder near valley floor. In company of chaffinches. It had obviously never tried a feeder before!

Peterstone Wentlooge

Main Sighting:
Visited Peterstone today (26.1.04) at high tide, covering the gout, pill, down the coast to Peterstone village. Perhaps not the best time to visit, JCB in operation by the gout. Never the less birds seen include 2 Little Grebe, 298 Shelduck, 210 Wigeon, 216 Teal, 65 Shoveler, 38 Pintail, 269 Mallard, 88 Grey Plover, 640 Dunlin, 360 Common Redshanks, 18 Black Tailed Godwits, 117 Curlew. Heavy movement of gulls eastwards Black Headed Gulls, Herring, and Lesser Black Backed Gulls.

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Good view of Bitter flying. Also drake Ring-necked Duck. Other ducks included; Pintail(8) Wigeon(200) Shoveler(20)Mallard(20)Pochard (10)Teal(2)Goldeneye(8)Tufted(16) Gadwall(10)and Shelduck(150)There were also at least 50 Reed Buntings feeding on the phragmites seed-heads. And circa 8 Cetti'ss Warblers singing.

Main Sighting:
Around mid day. Dartford Warbler still showing in the usual place, many singing Cettis. 5 Goldeneye. Peregrin on pylon at east end of reserve.

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Peregrine on tallest pylon taking cables across the Usk. Calling and short flights from and returning to perch. Later seen chasing wood pigeon over mud flats and then inland above our heads. Was the Bitter Ansells or SA?

Drake Mandarin Duck still at the reserve viewed from hide, seeming well settled and aggressively seeing off Mallards. Also Little Egret there and 22 Teal.

Castle Meadows, Abergavenny

Main Sighting:
Chiffchaff present for 2 days now, at the mouth of the Gavenny, feeding actively, often near a wren.Plenty of other birds present day-to-day: Siskin, Redpoll, Long-tailed Tit flocks, Linnet, Pair of Brambling yesterday, Treecreeper, Goosander, Little Grebe, Cormorant, Dipper, Kingfisher, etc.
