GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
08.00-14.30.of note 1 female marsh harrier,1 cuckoo heard then seen,1 singing sedge warbler,1 probable singing grasshopper warbler and a few duck hybrids to sort out.

Llandegfedd Reservoir

Main Sighting:
Visited Llandegfedd Reservoir today (12.4.04) counting all birds seen and heard, Started walk from Sluvad Road, down lane to the western inlets, up west bank, down the east bank finishing walk at the dam. Among the 57 species noted 40 + 2 on the nest (on) Great Crested Grebe, 6 Cormorant, 40 + 2 (on) Canada Geese, 26 Mallard, 7 Teal, 6 + 1 (on) Tufted Duck, a single agitated female Pochard, 1 female Goosander flying south over reservoir, 6 Buzzard, 1 Sparrow Hawk, 6 Moorhen, 34 Coot, 1 drumming Great Spotted Woodpecker, and 4 Redpoll. Of the commoner birds counted 13 Chiffchaff, 9 Willow Warbler, 8 Blackcap, 1 singing Garden Warbler, 24 Robin, 36 Blackbird, 3 Song Thrush 1 Mistle Thrush, 103 Fieldfare, 37 Blue Tit, 17 Great Tit, 4 Coal Tit, 2 Marsh Tit, 2 Nuthatch, 1 Tree Creeper. 7 Long Tailed Tit, 21 Wren, and 10 Dunnock,

Walk over from scenic drive car park2 Several Skylarks Meadow Pipits but numbers are depleted.2 pair Stonechats 1 F/M ReedBunting,1 Swallow ,2 Buzzard soaring,Nr carpark Agitated pair of Ravens mobbing a Crow and Buzzard possible nest site ?.Apart from that very quiet.

Main Sighting:
Visited three sites yesterday (11.4.04). A very good day logging 66 species, at Ynys y fro Reservoir early morning, 1 singing Blackcap, and three singing Willow Warblers. Then onto Goldcliff and Uskmouth for the tide. At Goldcliff among the recent birds reported 1 Common Sandpiper, 1 Swallow, and a pair of Pintails on the sea. At Uskmouth late morning, 3 singing Willow Warbler, 1 singing Sedge Warbler, a male and female Ruddy Duck, a Great Crested Grebe, 2 Whimbrel, 80 Oystercatchers, and a single Bearded Reedling.
