GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Immature Dartford Warbler in long grass to the east of the lighthouse. Watched between about 3 and 3:30, but very elusive, tending to stay low down in the long grass. Was initially in the company of 2 Stonechats. Last seen crossing path in to bramble. 1 Short-eared Owl also seen, on foreshore

Newport

Main Sighting:
Sat 22/11 between 1320 and 1335 at least, a Short Eared Owl over the reedbed at the bottom of 'sThe Moorings's being mobbed, variously, by up to 3 Magpies, 2 Jackdaw and a selection of Gulls. A juvenile Herring Gull seemed particularly vigorous.....

Caerleon

Main Sighting:
Visited Caerleon River Meadows (Home Farm Area) at low water today (23.11.03). Among the 37 species seen 3 Cormorant, 2 Grey Heron, 37 Mallard, 14 Teal, 49 Lapwing, 27 Common Redshanks, 2 Common Snipe, 2 Meadow Pipit, 7 species of thrush, 1 Marsh Tit, 14 Long Tailed Tit, 1 Jay, and 1 Water Pipit.

GLWR Goldcliff

Main Sighting:
Visited Goldcliff late morning (18.11.03) to catch the tide. A little blustery for the passerines, and rather quiet. Counted 4 Little Egret, 2 Mute Swan, 25 Shelduck, 16 Mallard, 98 Teal, 149 Wigeon, 4 Shoveler, 3 Gadwall, and 1 Kestrel. On the shore, 35 Curlew, 17 Oystercatchers, and flying west, 27 Black Tailed Godwits.

Peterstone Gout

Main Sighting:
Impressive count [approx] of 250+ Black-tailed Godwits at Peterstone Gout in Gwent today 12:30 - 13:30, by far the most I'sve seen at the site. Also present:50+ Curlew, 100+ Redshnk, Dunlin, Knot and Grey Plover too distant and tightly packed to count w/o a scope; 70 Oyc, 40 Wigeon, 50 Shoveler, Teal [loads], 4 Little Grebe in the lagoon and 2 Little Egret, one of which was an imm.

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Visited Uskmouth briefly during the evening of 16.11.03 viewing the easterly lagoons only. The male Ring Necked Duck still present along with 31 Tufted Duck, 2 Pochard, 7 Mallard, 6 Teal, 2 Wigeon, 2 Gadwall, 2 Water Rail heard, 27 Moorhen, 74 Coot, 8 Cetti'ss Warbler singing, and 2 Stonechat.
