Newhouse Mathern

Main Sighting:
Thursday 25/9/03 visited seawall at newhouse mathern, large numbers of swallows and house martins flying south east also saw one grey wagtail, six pied wagtails, one wigeon,three hundred + redshanks,two dunlin,two grey heron, four hundred + black headed gulls, ten mallard,three curlew, eight linnet, two greenfinch, two magpie, eight cormorant.

GLWR Goldcliff

Main Sighting:
At Goldcliff this morning, 5 Grey Heron, 19 Little Egret, 1 Grey Lag Goose, 1 Shelduck, 12 Mallard, 44 Teal, 1 Tufted Duck, 5 Moorhen, 34 Curlew, 124 Black Tailed Godwits, 34 Bar Tailed Godwits, 2 Greenshanks, 3 Common Redshanks, 1 Spotted Redshanks, 140 Knot, 1 Common Snipe, 6 Green Sandpipers, 240 Black Headed Gull, 65 Herring Gull, 22 Lesser Black Backed Gulls, 2 House Martin, 3 singing Chiffchaff, and 1 Cetti'ss Warbler.

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
Visited Uskmouth late morning (23.9.03) Walked down Saltmarsh Lane, around lagoons,and finishing at the car park. Rather quiet perhaps due to a few people working on the lagoons. The brood of 8 young Mute Swan reported by Tom Forster on 21st are now down to 7 juveniles, and 1 adult on the reen behind the sea wall, and east of Saltmarsh Lane. Otherwise 15 Little Grebe, 3 Grey Heron, 1 Little Egret, 12 adult, and two broods of young with one, and two juveniles Mute Swan (Total of 23 birds), 53 Mallard, 15 Tufted Duck, 1 Sparrow Hawk, 1 Peregrine, 1 Water Rail, 8 Moorhen, 86 Coot, 114 Black Headed Gull, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 singing Chiffchaff, 14 Long Tailed Tit, and 16 Magpie.

GLWR Goldcliff

Main Sighting:
Goldcliff sunday 7-9am. On the lagoons, 2 Spotted Redshanks, 6 Greenshanks, 1 Common Redshank, 17 Black tailed Godwit, 20+ Knot, Greylag Goose. Overhead, passage of pied wagtail, meadow pipit, hirundines( mostly house martin),goldfinch. Also small numbers of redpoll and 2-3 great spotted woodpecker (2 seen together then 1 later)

GLWR Goldcliff

Main Sighting:
Goldcliff Lagoons 20th 12.30-13.30 Lagoons very quiet with just the usual duck, greenshank etc. Possibly birds were scarce because of a large number of fisherman (I counted at least 15) on the reserve foreshore between uskmouth and goldcliff pill- is this allowed, and if not who should it be reported to? Magor Marsh 20th 14.30-16.00 Pond held 35 Mallard, 2 Teal, 2 Little Grebe, 16+ moorhen, 1 Heron. Mute swan pair with 8 young on reen bordering reserve.

Main Sighting:
Uskmouth p.m. water rail,cettis warbler ,2 whinchat and female peregrine. Ynys y fro, 30+ goldfinch (mostly spring/autumn migrants here),60+ house martin, 2 chiffchaffs.

GLWR Goldcliff

Main Sighting:
Visited Goldcliff today (19.9.03) at high tide. Quite a variety of stuff including 11 Little Egret, 1 Cormorant, 68 Teal, 60 Mallard, 22 Gadwall, 1 Tufted Duck, 1 Kestrel, 3 Moorhen, 1 Ringed Plover, 18 Oystercatchers, 110 Knot, 135 Black Tailed Godwits, 4 Greenshanks, 1 Ruff, 7 Common Redshanks, 1 Spotted Redshanks, 1 Common Snipe, 2 Little Stints, 5 Dunlin, 197 Black Headed Gull, 2 House Martin, 6 Swallow, 1 singing Chiffchaff, 1 singing Cetti'ss Warbler Also reported from Uskmouth a Ring Necked Duck.
