Llandegfedd Reservoir

Main Sighting:
11 (eleven) snipe on the bank opposite the hide at Llandegfedd reservoir this morning (Tuesday 17th December). I usually manage to see 1 bird when I visit but this morning was special. I guess it could be something to do with the low water level in the main reservoir.

Gwent

Main Sighting:
Govilon village, fly-past of 300 plus jackdaws every morning at first light. This is always spectacular and often very noisy. I am particularly pleased as most of the birds fly low directly over my house. Recent visitors were however woken early by the noise.

Pontypool

Main Sighting:
Tues 3 Dec. One Little Grebe on canal just south of Pontymoile Basin (Pontypool). Not worried by people walking by. I have never seen one on the canal before. Same day, I met GOS member Alan Price who recounted seeing a Heron flying along the canal just north of Pontypool, suddenly checking itself and diving (successfully) for a frog or fish. This is the third report of such diving that I have received from the Pontypool area since reporting my own sighting to The Dipper. Same bird or have others copied?
