Main Sighting:
Goldcliff Lagoons-17/5/02-a.m. Birds of interest were-1 Curlew Sandpiper- starting to moult to summer plumage ; 1 Knot-full summer plumage ; 14 Black-Tailed Godwits ; 1 Greenshank ; 3 Little Egrets ; 10 Gadwall ; plus 4 Little Ringed Plovers

Main Sighting:
Osprey still present until at least 7.00pm on post on foreshore just West of gout, being mobbed by gulls. Also Yellow Wagtail, Common Scoter

Peterstone Gout

Main Sighting:
Peterstone Gout: 0900-1040 ; Osprey in off the sea at 0915. Hunting around the Gout and golf course. Perched at least 3 times on posts or hedges around the Gout. Still present 1040, when it had caught a fish and was feeding on a post at the North end of the Gout. Other migrants/summer birds: 1 Whimbrel on shore (but tide out and receding) ; 2 Lesser Whitethroat ; 4 Whitethroat ; 3 Sedge Warbler

GLWR Goldcliff

Main Sighting:
Goldcliff Lagoons- Sunday 5th May. Lesser Whitethroats rattling away all day; a few swifts with Swallow passage; Greenshank, 4+Black -&- 4 Bar-tailed Godwits, a few Curlew, Lapwing chicks on view; Dunlin, 1 each of Knot, Ringed Plover -&- Turnstone on shore; possibly 50 Whimbrel with no confirmed sightings of the Hudsonian Whimbrel during the afternoon. 2 Short-eared Owls hunting Goldcliff Pill to 'sSeawall's. Marsh Harrier over East in morning, a different bird on same track at 4.45pm, plus another on Saturday at Dingestow shows a 'sgood's passage of this once rare bird for Gwent.

GLWR Goldcliff

Main Sighting:
An artic skua(dark phase) was seen from Goldcliff(seawall lane) on 30th April and 25 turnstones also there.The previous day a Fulmar was seen close in at the same place along with good numbers of terns(arctic).

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
27th april 2002, goldcliff and uskmouth 0630-1000 ; j.richards and j.r.garside. ; 2 swift, 10 bar.t.godwit, 3 little ringed plover, 5 greenshank,1 ruff, at least 40 whimbrel, 1 ring necked duck, 10 white wagtails, 3 little egret, 2 redshank, 30 + dunlin, white throat,etc in all 59 species observed

GLWR Uskmouth

Main Sighting:
The date for the Uskmouth BBS visit was 25 April, 07:00 to 09:00 ; Uskmouth BBS (ST3482) ; 42 species were recorded, including 4 new ones for the survey since 2000 - ; Short-eared Owl over the fields and along the seawall ; 2 Little Egret, Redshank, Snipe, Plenty of Reed Warblers, Sedge Warblers, Reed Buntings and Common Whitethroats. An Excellent view was had of a Cetti'ss Warbler, and at least two Lesser Whitethroats were present (my first for the year). Apparently Grey Partridge and Cuckoo had been seen earlier in the week
