Volunteering for GOS
Goytre House Wood
GOS owns an 11-acre wood near Goytre. We need one or two people to walk it occasionally to check for any wind damage and trees or branches at risk of falling. From time to time work parties are needed for periodic maintenance – cleaning out nest boxes, putting up new ones and cutting back excessive undergrowth etc. These work parties can be good fun. Notices will be put up on the website and mentioned at meetings as the need arises.
Support at Events
GOS likes to support events run by other organisations in the county. Volunteers are needed to set up and run the stands, usually just for a few hours in the afternoon. This also gives us the opportunity to promote the Society.
The Blaenavon World Heritage Environment Group
Regular bird surveys are undertaken by this group which aims to protect and promote the unique World Heritage Site at Blaenavon. They include WeBS and BBS surveys and Red Grouse monitoring. GOS members are welcome to join in. See www.bwheg.wales for more information.
