Main sighting: Common Crossbill

Heard calling in conifers by B4347, also Cuckoo calling (heard in England earlier), 6 singing Redstarts in vicinity, 1 Garden Warbler in song, House Martins nesting at Whitehouse Cottage.

Main sighting: Grasshopper Warbler

Grasshopper Warbler at Cwmsychan reservoir near British. Also Whinchat, Wheatear, Redstart, Tree Pipits, 2 Cuckoos, 2 Peregrines, Green Hairstreak butterflies and St. Mark’s Flies.
At British, Whitethroat.
At Blaenserchan, Dingy Skipper butterfly.

Main sighting: Red kite; sedge warbler

Reed bunting; reed warbler; sedge warbler (2), willow warbler (heard); pair stonechat; whitethroat – several; blackcap; 3 linnet; 3 red kite – first time we’ve ever seen them down here; buzzard; GS woodpecker; etc – 28 in all.

Main sighting: Garden warbler

Wye valley walk , garden warbler, greenfinch, great spotted woodpecker on fenceposts, whitethroat, goldfinch. Old station, garden warbler. Monnow, 3 grey wagtail, 6 swifts, greenfinch song thrush. Drybridge Park, heron, 2 goldfinch, 2 dunnock fledglings

Osprey on telegraph pole.
Sighting by a non-member (Matt Gould) who requested confirmation of identification before submitting the record. Confirmed by photo supplied to Steve Butler. Bird had a GPS transmitter attached as small aerial can be seen on its back.

Nightjar heard churring at 23.25 from garden in The Narth some distance away in direction of Beacon Hill..

Main sighting: Eurasion Sparrow Hawk

The hawk swooped on a sparrow on our bird table and defeathered it in our back garden.
I have a photograph of it.

Daily walk: Kingfisher 2 Grey Wagtail 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull circa 74 nests Herring Gull 9 nests Blackcap 4 singing.
Bedwas garden Painted Lady butterfly 2

Main sighting: Kingfisher

Wye: 30 sand Martins, 2 reed bunting grey wagtail, heron, kingfisher diving, raven, chiffchaff, blackcap. Also 5 large chub showing under rail bridge.
Monnow : 40 sand Martins investigating wall crevices, grey wagtail, blackcap, green woodpecker 5 swifts. Several shoals of small chub.
