St Mellons
Sat 14th Dec 2019
Main sighting: Long Eared Owl/ Tylluan Gorniog
I am a member of the Sussex Ornithological Society. Whilst visiting family in St Mellons I stayed up late into the night. The owl hooted from about 11.45 pm to 12.15am. The weather was showery but not windy. Grid reference ST228821. It should be audible from T junction of Bridge Road (B4562) and Tyr Winch Road. I realise this is a scarce species however the call was unmistakeable. Hope this is helpful. All the best.

Goldcliff Lagoon
Sat 14th Dec 2019
Main sighting: Ducks, ducks and more ducks
Visited a very waterlogged Goldcliff Lagoons this afternon. Water levels on all lagoons highest I have seen for some time. Shovelers, Teal, Wigeon, Gadwall, Shelduck and Tufted Ducks. Main numbers being on Priors and some on Becs Lagoon. On Priors two Redshanks stood out as otherwise the whole reserve was devoid of waders.
A Kestrel was seen hunting. Two Stonechats near the sea wall hide. Usual Canada and Greylag Geese. Mute Swans also.
Out on the foreshore — Curlews in samll numbers and a flock of 7 Lesser Black Headed Gulls. Black headed Gulls also on the waters edge.
